1st Haircut Hints
Keep in mind that how kids react to their first haircut is very hard to predict. They have good and bad days, and sometimes they are just not in the mood for a haircut, and don't know how to express it. Sometimes they are tired, hungry, or just don't feel well. For most kids, mornings are best, but some are better after their afternoon nap. Remember that if you never brush, comb, spray or blowdry your child's hair, they are more likely to be scared when a stranger tries to.
To make the first haircut experience less traumatic for the child and the parents, here are some suggestions to try at home before coming to the salon.
- Talk to your child, tell them what to expect.
- There are videos you can watch together.
- Act out their first haircut at home, spray and comb while looking in a mirror, even blow dry alittle, keep it short. Even just combing and styling their hair at home can help, if you don't ever comb their hair at home why should they let a stranger?
- Pick simple quick cuts or styles, remember kids don't sit too long.
- At the salon, don't get angry at your child. Some parents feel embarrassed when their child cries, but don't worry, we are used to it. The more upset you are, the more upset your child gets. If you stay calm maybe they will too.
